Stealth & Movement

In a Multi-player game or a tense game between 2 people, "1 on 1", how you move around the map will determine your fate.  Stealth, moving in silence and not being seen or heard until you are ready to strike, is the single most important tactic in the game. There are several points to mention here. Never pick up an object unless you are sure it won't be heard or you really need it.   So avoid all battle trash.  This is more important in and near tunnels and halls where another pilot could be lurking and waiting for just such a sound to betray your presence.  Never use your Afterburner unless you have a reason and the risk is in your favor.  Above all never use the Afterburner near an entrance to a tunnel or hall.  Again another pilot can take advantage of knowing from that sound that you are there, and you will likely get a shaker or mega in the face.  Move slow and quietly anywhere near a hall or tunnel.  This will also cut down on the lighting effect {Only in D2} that a pyro makes traversing through the mine.  This light change is a deadly telltale sign of someone coming.  Always take a quick look around before entering or exiting a hall or tunnel.  Know what is in front and behind you.  Example: When I enter a fuel area I always enter it backwards. I want to know if someone has seen me go into that fuel area. Also don't make it a habit of coming out a tunnel or hall the same direction each time.  There is less likelihood of meeting a shaker on the way out.  Doubling back is part of the game, until your opponent catches on, then you do the other.  Mix it up.  Try not to become predictable.  Descent 2  One on One is the ultimate head game, but it happens in multi-player games as well.  The better players coming into a game have a goal, and that is to take down the leader of that game.  To do that he will go out of his way, even passing up other targets, to get the leader.
When you do enter a room you must move in a fighting stance, ready to give and receive.  You should feel the prickle of the fine hairs on the back of the neck.  Be Ready at all Times!
Now, what I've said about moving and stealth will work in your favor.  As you are moving quietly, listen closely and catch the sounds and ambient lighting that others make in the game.  Then give them that shaker in the face that would have been your face if you were not but a shadow that they never saw or heard.
Note:  If you like to camp and wait on prey to come to you (Room Service) then remember lag.  I can enter a room, see you and fire before lag catches up and you even see me.  When you are stationary lag stops for you, you become visible to other pilots in real time, because you are exactly where you are.  You aren't moving, your a sitting duck!
