Tri-Cording or 3-Cording
Moving Fast without Burning or Moving Even Faster While Afterburning.

Yes!  You can move faster without using the After Burner.  You do this by doing what is called Double-Cording or Triple-Cording.  Simply put, you hold your nose up and to the right or left about 30 degrees, while sliding up or down and sliding right or left at the same time.  You are moving using either two (double-cording) or three (triple-cording) of the 7 available motion keys.  I am talking about the Accelerate, After Burner, Backwards, Right, Left, Up, and Down keys.  Press any two or three.

Your configuration, the setup of your keyboard/joystick, plays an important part in the ease with which you can cord.  If you use the 'hat' on your joystick to slide you can't just use the hat.  You also have to use your key board or other keys on your joystick.   Some pilots have all the slide  directions on the key board.  Others, like me, have left and right on foot petals and up and down on the hat.  However you are set up, you can slide in two or three directions at the same time as long as you can independently press three of the seven direction buttons.

Cording increases your speed by adding at least some of the speed from each of the motion keys.  It increases your speed in the case of double-cording by 40%, and in the case of triple-cording by 70%.  Some pilots are so good at it that its almost like using their after burner, and can dodge shakers with this procedure.  Not I.  Not yet, anyway.  Really good pilot can do this just as well backwards.   The After Burner is great and I would be lost with out one; however, it is noisy as hell.  And if you use it too much, it will get you killed as often as it saves your butt.  The after burner is not an infinite resource.  It must be recharged between uses.  How often have you thought, "Dang!  Ran out of after burner!"  You'll never run out of fuel cording.  Never, and it's quite.

Since I have been triple-cording while playing Gig2 it has saved my ass more than a few times.  I zip around the map without making a sound, saving my after burner for when I really need it.  Plus there are times when you don't have an After Burner {D2} , like after a re-pop when you really have the edge over the pilot who's not cording.  Example:  You re-pop, and at the same time another pilot re-pops near or in the same place.  Just a short distance away is a shaker or after burner,  You both head for it, well the one triple-cording will get to it way before the pilot who is not.  I found my  self in that position on a re-pop, there in front of me about half way across the room was a shaker. The other pilot was also in front of me headed for the shaker (not cording), I triple-corded, pasted the other Pilot and reached the shaker before he did.  Now because of the lag difference he also  picked up the shaker, but it did him no good, because I was already firing my shaker. Whammo, dead Pilot.  He even coughed up the shaker he had picked up. :)    You already know that I don't believe in killing a re-pop, but that was different.  He would surely have given me that shaker in the face, and we were both even at the time.  Or were we?  :)   If you don't know how to triple-cord you had better learn.  I had been doing very well with out it for a long time.  But other pilots were doing even better with it.  I said no more.  I learned to triple-cord.   You should too.  Good Luck!
